Decks

Deck library

Starter decks for each language are included with the app:

  • Biblical Hebrew: words appearing 100+ times
  • Biblical Greek: words appearing 50+ times
  • Biblical Aramaic: words appearing 25+ times

These starter decks are designed to allow new students of each language to begin learning, and to allow anyone to get to know the app’s features. Complete decks for each language are available for purchase.

Derivative decks

Derivative deck maker

The derivative deck feature allows the user to create a new deck based on any existing deck in the app. The user is able to narrow down the cards to be included by:

  • Frequency
  • Parts of speech
  • Scripture references

Leitner system spaced repetition

Leitner system settings

The Leitner system of spaced repetition serves to help the user master and retain vocabulary effectively and efficiently. The app keeps track of how thoroughly the user has mastered each word, and spaces them accordingly. Cards that have been firmly mastered are displayed rarely, and cards that have not been mastered show up much more often, with seven total tiers of mastery. The user can adjust how frequently cards appear at each level.

Hebrew verbs

Hebrew verb flashcard

Hebrew verbs may appear in a number of different conjugations (also known as stems or binyanim). To help the learner become familiar with the meanings of the different conjugations of a verb and their relationships to one another, the glosses are presented in a grid. In addition, the relative frequency of each conjugation is indicated by the darkness of the text. For example, the verb יצא appears in the qal, hiphil, and hophal conjugations; the qal is used most frequently, the hiphil somewhat less often, and the hophal rarely, and the text darkness reflects this (see right). (Users who prefer to turn off these two features can also do so in the settings.)

Audio

Hebrew verb gloss

Audio recordings are available for all three languages (in-app purchase). The pronunciations used are:

  • Biblical Greek: Erasmian
  • Biblical Hebrew: Modern Israeli
  • Biblical Aramaic: Tiberian
